The three layers: free, subscription and paid extras
- Free to followers: posts that show what your page is about and why someone should subscribe.
- Included in a subscription: the regular content subscribers pay for each month.
- Paid extras: locked media (external site) sold in posts or messages, and tips (external site).
Fansly summarises these options in getting started with monetising (external site). The balance between them is the main pricing decision, and it is different for every page.
Should you use more than one tier?
Fansly allows several subscription tiers with different prices and benefits, and its price limitations (external site) article gives a range of $5 to $499.99 a month per tier at the time of writing. Its own audience (external site) article points out that many creators stick to one tier, or none.
More tiers only help if each one is clearly different. If fans cannot tell what the higher tier adds, most will choose the cheapest or none. A common approach is to start with one tier, learn what subscribers value, and add a tier only when there is something distinct to put in it.
Locked media and free previews
Locked media lets you sell individual posts or message content. Fansly lets you add a free preview (external site) to locked media, and its help centre says locked media without one is not eligible for the For You page, so previews affect discovery as well as sales.
Fansly sets a minimum price for media sales; check the current figure in its minimum price (external site) article rather than relying on a number you read elsewhere.

Three priorities, in order
Discounts, trials and timed posts
- Fansly supports free trials (external site); its help centre says lifetime subscriptions are not currently available.
- Subscription discounts (external site) can exclude fans who have already had a promotion, and Fansly says each discount is a one-time opportunity per user.
- Posts can be scheduled to expire (external site), which suits time-limited content without manual clean-up.
Trials and discounts bring people in, but they often leave when the offer ends. Watch renewal rates for those subscribers separately, using the churn calculator.
Testing prices without guessing
Change one thing at a time, for long enough to see an effect, and compare with your own previous months rather than anyone else’s figures. Keep prices broadly consistent if you also run an OnlyFans page, so fans are not pushed to whichever is cheaper. Our content strategy work is built around this kind of testing.
