What messaging tools does Fansly offer?
- Direct messages (external site): one-to-one conversations, which can include locked media, voice notes and notes you keep about each fan.
- Mass messages (external site): one message to a group, such as current subscribers, expired subscribers, followers or a custom list, sent now or scheduled.
- Automated messages (external site): sent when someone follows, subscribes, renews or tips, with options for delays and, for tips, a keyword or amount.
- Lists (external site) and VIP (external site) status: ways to group fans, and to give your most engaged fans a separate inbox.
Control who can message you
Fansly’s DM permissions (external site) let you choose whether everyone, only followers, or people meeting criteria you set can message you, such as subscribers or fans who tip per message. Tightening permissions is one of the quickest ways to make a busy inbox manageable.
A simple messaging routine
- A short, friendly welcome message for new subscribers, set up once as an automated message.
- A follow-up before renewal for subscribers you have not heard from, rather than a hard sell.
- Mass messages that are relevant to the group they go to, not the same offer to everyone.
- A daily check of VIP and priority conversations first, then the rest.
- Anything unusual, uncomfortable or outside your limits dealt with by you, not automated.

Three priorities, in order
If someone else helps with your messages
Fans pay for a connection, so honesty matters. Fansly’s help centre messaging articles, at the time of writing, do not set out specific rules on who may write messages for a creator, so read Fansly’s Terms of Service (external site) and check its current rules before anyone else messages on your behalf. UK consumer law also treats misleading paying customers as an unfair practice.
Whoever helps, agree in writing what they can and cannot say or offer, what must always come back to you, and how you stay open with fans. That is how our fan messaging support is set up, and our agency contract checklist includes it as a point to check in any agreement.
Safety in the inbox
- Never take payment outside the platform.
- Never share personal details, your location or other accounts that could identify you.
- Never agree to meet anyone.
- Use DM permissions and blocking for anyone who will not respect your limits.
